On the occasion of the group exhibition Ice Cream Crush* with jewellery created by ten Bulgarian designers presented at Munich Jewellery Week 2017, we introduce you to the participants:
On the style of your work:
My style and my way of work is sculptural. I love the organic, natural forms, spaces and unusual combinations of materials.
Share an aspect of your project you are particularly proud of:
Today the value of the jewellery is measured not only by the value of the materials used. Contemporary jewellery is the subject of art, it impresses with its design and the ideas and messages it carries. In the presented project the precious materials that are the focus of classic jewellery have been replaced by a piece of pottery. Recycling in the form of processing unnecessary everyday objects and reusing them to create something new is the basic concept in most of my projects.
Preferred materials of work:
I like the contrast between different materials. I like using a combination of porcelain, rubber, leather or ceramics and metal. Despite their different characteristics, they complement each other. Matt surfaces contrast with glazed ones. The processing of each of these materials is a challenge for me and a way to learn something new.
Favourite design object or concept jeweller:
I like the design in all its manifestations. Design in contemporary architecture and interiors is impressive. I admire futuristic projects of Zaha Hadid. I am inspired by the Surrealism sculptures and the concept of readymade art. I like the objects of jewellery designers like Ted Noten, David Bielander, Peter Hoogeboom, Peter Bauhuis …
Professional related expectations from Munich Jewellery Week 2017:
I expect the audience of Munich Jewellery Week to have a good impression from this first group presentation of Bulgarian authors. I hope this is a step forward to open new doors for the promotion and development of contemporary Bulgarian jewellery.
*We are proudly standing behind the first group exhibition of Bulgarian contemporary jewellery makers at the international and widely acclaimed event Munich Jewellery Week, organised by the cross-disciplinary platform and independent magazine discussing contemporary jewellery in the context of today’s visual culture Current Obsession.
